CADGERS IN THE CANONGATE (R8x48) 3C (4C set) Walsh RSCDS Bk 9
1- 8            1s dance parallel reels of 3 on opposite sides
                   (1M crosses to give RSh to 2L and 1L crosses down giving LSh to 3M)
9-16           1s dance reels of 3 on own sides
                   (1L crosses to give RSh to 2L and 1M crosses down giving LSh to 3M)
17-24         1s set to 2L, set facing down, set to 2M and back to places
25-32         1s+2s set and dance RH across ½ way, set and dance LH back to places
33-40         1s cross RH, cast 1 place and turn LH 1½ times to own sides
41-48         2s+1s dance R&L

Dance Information:

A cadger was a word for a hired carrier of goods, probably not unlike a porter or perhaps a courier, which later came to mean beggar or bum. The Cannongate is an important street in Edinburgh that runs from the walled town around the castle down to Holyrood.

1- 8           1s (with nearer hands joined) set to 2L & circle 3H round to the left,
                  set to 2M & circle 3H round to the left
9-16          1s lead down the middle (2s step up) & back to end between 2s (BtoB) facing opposite partners
17-24        1s+2s dance reel of 4 across, 1s end in middle facing 1st corner
25-32        1s turn 1st corner RH, partner LH, 2nd corner RH & cross LH to own sides

1-4             1st C cross and cast one place
5-8             1st C turn with LH 1 ¾ times to face 1st corners
9-16           Reels of three on the sides. Pass 1st corner with left shoulder.
17-22         Reels of three across the dance. 1st L with 2nd C, 1st M with 3rd C
                   (each person of the 2nd and 3rd C dances a complete circle on bars 15-18,
                   i.e., the last 2 steps of the first reel and the first 2 steps of the second reel)
23-24         1st C cross to own side
25-28         2nd, 1st and 3rd Cs dance six hands round to the left with 8 slip steps
29-32         2nd, 1st, and 3rd Cs left hands across to place.

Dance Information:

Loch Katrine is a freshwater lake in the Scottish Stirling district. It is roughly 13 kilometres long by 1 kilometre wide and runs the length of Strath Gartney.
